  • Sanatoriums in contemporary narratives: ‘The sea’, by Blai Bonet Adéla Koťátková Comunicación Novel space medicine sanatorium tuberculosis Literature and medicine are closely connected. Many works that portray experiences of disease have been set in health care facilities, including sanatoriums. Anti-tuberculosis sanatoriums, seen as spaces of isolation and as «death row» have inspired many authors. Twentieth-century novels devoted significant attention to these institutions which, kept far from the rest of society, conditioned both the life and the identity of the sick. The magic mountain by Thomas Mann and Rest home by Camilo José Cela are two outstanding references among these productions. In Catalan literature, El mar (The sea in its English language translation) by Majorcan author Blai Bonet must also be highlighted. 2018 artículo científico 2174-3487 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=511766757016 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511766757016/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511766757016/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511766757016/511766757016.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511766757016/movil https://doi.org/10.7203/metode.8.10787 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5117 Mètode Science Studies Journal application/pdf Universitat de València Mètode Science Studies Journal (España) Vol.8
