- Beyond the double helix: The structure of DNA G-quadruplexes Isabel Pont Niclòs Jorge González García Comunicación DNA drug oncogene telomeres quadruplexes DNA is the fundamental biomolecule required for correct cell functioning and, until very recently, it was associated with the double helix structure discovered over 70 years ago by Crick, Watson, and Franklin. However, other DNA structures and conformations such as G-quadruplexes have also been described. These G-quadruplexes are formed in genomic regions that are rich in guanine. They have a tetramer structure and control biological processes such as gene expression, protection against ageing, or the transmission of neural information. In this document, we describe their chemical and structural characteristics and discuss their main cellular functions. Lastly, we present G-quadruplexes as potential molecular targets for future cancer therapies. 2022 artículo científico 2174-3487 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=511769287003 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511769287003/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511769287003/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511769287003/511769287003.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511769287003/movil https://doi.org/10.7203/metode.12.16505 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5117 Mètode Science Studies Journal application/pdf Universitat de València Mètode Science Studies Journal (España) Num.12
