contents Adaptation and challenges in mountaineering: The impact of climate change on the cryosphere of the Pyrenees and Alps Ibai Rico Eñaut Izagirre Comunicación Alps glaciers Pyrenees cryosphere Climate change Anthropogenic climate change is generating profound changes in the cryosphere of the Pyrenees and Alps, which in turn impacts mountaineering and guided high-mountain activities. Since 1959, the temperature in the Pyrenees has increased by 0.2–0.4 °C per decade, leading to a decrease in snow cover thickness and duration, as well as a significant thinning and retreat of glaciers. In the Alps, permafrost covers 65 % of the area above 2,300 metres, and its degradation increases the risk of landslides and makes many climbing and mountaineering routes more difficult or even impossible. Adapting to these changes requires a number of strategies on the part of guides and climbers. 2025 artículo científico 2174-3487 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=511782477006 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511782477006/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511782477006/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511782477006/511782477006.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5117/511782477006/movil 10.7203/metode.15.30105 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5117 Mètode Science Studies Journal application/pdf Universitat de València Mètode Science Studies Journal (España) Num.6 Vol.15
