  • The effects of rain and fallen debris on macroinvertebrate colonization of artificial water tanks and their implications for bromeliad communities Julián Monge-Nájera Kyle Gename Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) Costa Rica Tropical ecology bromeliad experiments microhabitat colonization Culicidae in phytotelmata Bromeliads are important components of tropical forests and their leaves form tanks (“phytotelmata”) with unique microecosystems. Until recently, there were no experiments of how macroinvertebrates reach these tanks. We placed 150 plastic cups (“artificial bromeliads”) in a Costa Rican forest and found that when debris and rain are experimen- tally blocked, some groups are not found in the tanks (including the medically important Culicidae) or differ in frequency between treat - ment and control. 2014 artículo científico 1659-4266 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=515651795005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5156 UNED Research Journal / Cuadernos de Investigación UNED application/pdf Universidad Estatal a Distancia UNED Research Journal / Cuadernos de Investigación UNED (Costa Rica) Num.1 Vol.6
