contents Species richness of continental gastropod mollusks from a coffee plantation in Jinotega, northern Nicaragua: a first approach Antonio Mijail Pérez Marlon Sotelo Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) diversity coee plantation Northern Nicaragua Terrestrial gastropods Continental mollusks of some parts of Nicaragua, such as the Pacic region and the central-north of the country have been relatively well studied, including recently contributions on community ecology for these areas. This paper presents the results of a study on the structure of communities in a coee farm in the northern zone of the country and at a protected area adjacent to it. The results show a total inventory of 21 species, more or less common values in communities of this group. Species richness at the coee farm considering all stations (18 species) is higher than species richness at the protected area of Cerro Datanlí- El Diablo (11 species) probably because our sampling eort was larger at the former. It is also worth mentioning that at the latter we found Streptostyla turgidula , an endangered species associated to pristine eco - systems. This species is not found at any of the other sampling stations. Shannon-Weaver Diversity ranged between 2.17 and 2.51, which is con - sistent with the ndings of the authors at other agricultural ecosystems. These data add to the increasingly abundant information on the biodi - versity of these ecosystems where production processes take place in what appears to be an equilibrium with the conservation of biodiversity. 2013 artículo científico 1659-4266 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=515651979002 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5156 UNED Research Journal / Cuadernos de Investigación UNED application/pdf Universidad Estatal a Distancia UNED Research Journal / Cuadernos de Investigación UNED (Costa Rica) Num.1 Vol.5
