| contents | Melting sea ice, changing naval geopolitics: The impacts of climate change in the maritime delimitations in the Arctic and the challenges to the UNCLOS Eduardo Ernesto Filippi Milton José Deiró de Mello Relaciones Internacionales Arctic UNCLOS Geopolitics Climate change Maritime disputes The Arctic, deeply affected by climate change, is experiencing a shrinking cryosphere in the Arctic Circle, seen by polar states as an economic and strategic opportunity. Although this "normality" has generated geopolitical challenges in the region, marked by cooperation since the Cold War, it is now transformed into conflict. Russia and Western states intensify military operations, accusing each other of military escalation. However, an underestimated aspect is the geopolitical assessment of melting ice and sea level rise, especially its impact on the low tide line and United NationsConvention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) regulations. This article discusses the results of sea level rise on the territorial and geopolitical aspects of the Arctic Ocean. 2024 artículo científico 1657-7558 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=53179932007 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/531/53179932007/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/531/53179932007/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/531/53179932007/53179932007.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/531/53179932007/movil 10.18601/16577558.n40.08 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=531 OASIS application/pdf Universidad Externado de Colombia OASIS (Colombia) Num.40 |
