contents Laboratorio clínico y micológico en pacientes con histoplasmosis y síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida Luis Trombetta Amadeo Javier Bava Biología mycoses histoplasmosis laboratory techniques acquired immunodeficiency syndrome CLINICAL AND MYCOLOGICAL LABORATORY IN PATIENTS WITHHISTOPLASMOSIS AND ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCYSYNDROMEThe results of the clinical laboratory techniques and the mycological studieswere retrospectively evaluated in 15 male AIDS-related histoplasmosispatients, assisted at Ward 11 of the Hospital Muñiz of Buenos Aires, from1/1/98 to 12/31/03. Those patients evolved into an acute disseminated clinicalform of histoplasmosis; 13 of them were discharged and the other 2died, in spite of specific antifungal treatment. Among the most outstandingalterations revealed by the general laboratory studies, the presence of anaemia, leucocytopenia, increased sedimentation test and a rise in aminotransferases (GOTand GPT) and alkaline phosphatase levels can be highlighted. In spite of the liver impairment, total bilirubin levels, evaluated in 9 patients, remaired within the normal values in 6of them (66.66 %). T CD4+ lymphocyte counts in peripheral blood were performed in 13/15patients and they showed a median of 15 cells/μL (range 1 - 159). The microscopy appliedon smears from samples obtained by scrapping of mucous and skin lesions together with theblood cultures performed with a modified lysis-centrifugation technique, were the mostimportant methods for the initial diagnosis of histoplasmosis. 2005 artículo científico 0325-2957 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=53539410 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=535 Acta Bioquímica Clínica Latinoamericana application/pdf Federación Bioquímica de la Provincia de Buenos Aires Acta Bioquímica Clínica Latinoamericana (Argentina) Num.4 Vol.39
