- Dynamics of internal waves generated by mountain breeze in Alchichica Crater Lake, Mexico Anatoliy Filonov Iryna Tereshchenko Cesar Monzón Javier Alcocer Ciencias de la Tierra Puebla Mexico spectral 3D analysis Crater Lake Alchichica internal wavesgeneration Hydrophysical measurements carried out in thedeep tropical crater lake Alchichica, Mexico, showed the presence of intense internal waveswith a one-day period, generated by theregular influence of a mountain breeze. Thediurnal waves effectively generate semidiurnalinternal waves that are close to the resonanceoscillations of the lake. The internal waves brakeclose to the shoreline and into the lake’s bottom, which generates baroclinic circulation and watermasses mixing. According to the data obtainedwith a ADCP, two diurnal and two semidiurnalinclined waves propagate in the lake towardseach other in depth and can form fluctuationsof a vertical mode, if the depth of the lake isa multiple of one-half the vertical wavelength. This multiplicity applies to both the diurnal andsemidiurnal waves. The simultaneous existenceof horizontal and vertical modes corresponds toa volumetric mode, or resonant lake oscillation. The waves collapse near the shore slopes andthe lake’s bottom, inducing baroclinic circulationand local mixing. 2015 artículo científico 0016-7169 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=56832992004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=568 Geofísica Internacional application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Geofísica Internacional (México) Num.1 Vol.54
