- Crustal velocity structure of southern Guatemala using refracted and Sp converted waves Juan Pablo Ligorría Enrique Molina Ciencias de la Tierra Guatemala converted waves crustalstructure apparent velocity The crustal velocity structure of southern Guatemala is estimated using the methods ofMinimum Apparent Velocity and Converted Waves, applied to local seismic data. Theresults are tested by relocating a random sample of events and by the generation ofsynthetic seismograms. The velocity model obtained has a roughly constant gradientthroughout the crust, underlain by an intermediate layer ~ 15 km in thickness. Mantlevelocities are approximately 8.0 km/sec. This is an average model for southern Guatemalawith the limitations of the complex tectonics. 1997 artículo científico 0016-7169 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=56836102 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=568 Geofísica Internacional application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Geofísica Internacional (México) Num.1 Vol.36
