| contents | Crustal structure of the Arteaga Complex, Michoacán, southern Mexico, from gravity and magnetics Frank García Pérez Jaime Urrutia Fucugauchi Ciencias de la Tierra Gravity western Mexico Guerrero terrane Arteaga Complex crustal structure The Arteaga region, Michoacan, southern Mexico is one of the few areas withbasement outcrops in the Guerrero terrane. The Zihuatanejo subterrane ischaracterized by Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous island-arc volcanosedimentarysequences that rest unconformably on metamorphosed rocks of the ArteagaComplex, of possible Triassic-Jurassic age. Gravity and total field magneticmeasurements were taken along two SW-NE profiles across the metamorphic and igneous complex. Spectral analysis is used to estimate depths to the Moho andmajor crustal interfaces. The crustal thickness increases to the N and NE awayfrom the margin and is in the order of 28-32 km. The metamorphic complex hasan average thickness of 15 km. In the southern sector near Arteaga, the uppermostmetamorphic units present a lower density contrast possibly due to regionalalteration. The granitic and granodioritic batholith has a thickness of up to 8 km inthe SE sector. The gravity and magnetic models are consistent with proposals thatthe Arteaga Complex constitutes the basement of the Zihuatanejo subterrane. 1997 artículo científico 0016-7169 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=56836402 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=568 Geofísica Internacional application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Geofísica Internacional (México) Num.4 Vol.36 |
