- Lake Chapala and the Cienega aquifer: chemical evidence of hydraulic communication S. Ochoa Estrada J. T. Silva García R. Rodríguez Castillo S. López Díaz Ciencias de la Tierra Lake Chapala Chapala Cienega A hydraulic communication mechanism between Lake Chapala and the Cienega de Chapala aquifer system is proposed. Thelake is a recharge area and a potential source of aquifer pollution. In 1910, 56 % of the Cienega was occupied by the lake. Thecommunication hypothesis is supported by piezometry, phosphate and chlorine gradients that suggest flows from the lake to theaquifer. The high content of clay in the shallow layers controls the agriculture phosphate leakage. A proposed mixed functionalmodel is based on the aquifer hydrostratigraphic model, the main recharge mechanisms and the chemical and piezometricaltendencies. 2002 artículo científico 0016-7169 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=56841107 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=568 Geofísica Internacional application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Geofísica Internacional (México) Num.1 Vol.41
