  • X-ray line spectroscopy of massive x-ray binaries D. A. Liedahl M. Sako P. S. Wojdowski F. Paerels S. M. Kahn Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas 1) LOSS VELA X OUTFLOWS STARS: MASS Spectra from ASCA have provided the most detailed view to date of theX-ray spectral properties of stellar winds in massive X-ray binaries. Using detailedatomic models that account for recombination cascade kinetics, we have reexaminedarchival data from Vela X-1 and Cen X-3 in the context of simple modelsof their wind geometries and velocity distributions. Our approach emphasizes ap-parent di erential emission measure (DEM) distributions, and their dependence onorbital phase and wind parameters. A grid of theoretical DEM distributions is usedto generate model spectra, which are compared to the data. We obtain good ts,and derive constraints on the stellar wind parameters. We provide a summary of themethod, and show that, even though the companion stars in Vela X-1 and Cen X-3have comparable mass-loss rates, the winds in these two systems are dramaticallydi erent in character. 2000 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57100909 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Vol.9
