  • Starbursts and the production and dispersal of heavy elements Guillermo Tenorio Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas ISM: HYDRODYNAMICS DUCTION RATES STARS: METAL PRO STARS: STARBURSTS Here we derive some further properties of starbursts; namely the amount ofmatter returned to the interstellar medium by means of supernova explosions frommassive stars (M 8M), as a function of time. Following di erent approximationsto stellar evolution we also derive the time dependent oxygen and ironproduction rates as a function of the starburst mass. The newly created heavy elementsclearly enhance the metalicity of the resultant superbubbles, fact that shouldbe taken into consideration when calculating the cooling and the X{ray luminosityof superbubbles. It however will take several times 108 yr for them to enhance themetalicity of the ISM. 2001 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57101028 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Vol.10
