contents Constraints on type ia supernovae from near infrared spectra G. H. Marion J. C. Wheeler P. Höflich Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas INFRARED: STARS SUPERNOVAE: GENERAL We describe a research program to improve the understanding of Type IaSupernovae (SNe Ia) by modeling and observing near infrared (NIR) spectra ofthese events. The NIR between 0.9 and 2.5 is optimal for examining certainproducts of the SNe Ia explosion that may be blended or obscured in other spectralregions. NIR analysis will enable us to place important constraints on the physicalproperties of SNe Ia progenitors and their explosion dynamics. These are criticalsteps toward understanding the physics of Type Ia Supernovae. We have identied features in NIR spectra of SNe Ia that discriminate betweenPopulation I and Population II progenitors. These features can signicantly restrictthe evolutionary history of SNe Ia. We also examine certain products of the nuclearburning that enable us to place constraints on the propagation of nuclear burningduring the explosion, and on the behavior of the burning front during the event. We will be able to di erentiate between the several explosion models for SNe Ia. 2001 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57101042 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Vol.10
