  • The age of the galaxy from thorium cosmochronometry C. Sneden J. J. Cowan Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas SIS ETERS ABUNDANCES ATOMIC DATA NUCLEOSYNTHE The long{lived radioactive element thorium can potentially provide a simpleand direct clock to determine the age of our Galaxy. Spectroscopic investigations ofthorium in metal{poor stars have yielded some promising initial results. We discussthe major observational and theoretical limitations in thorium cosmochronometry, and point out the ways in which the implied Galactic ages from thorium abundancescan be made more accurate. 2001 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57101049 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Vol.10
