| contents | High velocity outflows in quasars Paola Rodríguez Hidalgo Daniel Nestor Fred Hamann Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) are believedto be powered by accretion onto a Super-Massive Black Hole (SMBH). In order tohave material falling into the SMBH, angularmomentum conservation requires a counter-part for this accretion that is fueling theSMBH in the AGN. Outows might play anessential role in active galactic nuclei. Theyshow common occurance, both in quasars(30%-40% in optically selected quasars) andSeyfert galaxies (approx. 60%), but might beubiquitous if they subtend a small angulardistance in the sky. Moreover, they bringinformation from the AGN inner regions, which is not accesible through other ways.Although for more than a decade modelshave included material outowing from anaccretion disk around a SMBH, surprisinglythere is no consensus in our understandingof basic properties like the accelerationmechanism(s), launch radii, mass loss rates, terminal velocities, etc. We are involved ina program to derive basic dynamical char-acteristics for some well-studied individualows, and, in particular, we are interestedin High Velocity (HV) outows since theywill present unique challenges for the abovementioned theoretical models. 2007 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57102974 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Vol.29 |
