- Determination of Stellar Atmospheric Parameters from the Near-IR Region R. Molina J. Stock Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas STARS: ABUNDANCES STARS: ATMOSPHERES A sample of 211 giant stars with spectral types K and M has been analyzed, forwhich pseudo-equivalent widths were measured and stellar atmospheric parameterswere previously identified. The spectra of these stars have been taken from a stellarlibrary observed with the Coudé telescope at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, with a resolution of 1 A FWHM and covering a spectral region of 3460{9460 A.A set of first and second order polynomials is applied, which involves one, two, orthree independent variables and allows us to estimate the precision in the effectivetemperature Te ff, the surface gravity, log g and the metallicity [Fe/H] in terms of the pseudo-equivalent widths of seven absorption features in the near IR regions5400{9500 A. The results obtained from linear fittings with three independentvariables to the three fundamental atmospheric parameters attain residual averagesof (14915) K, (0.260,02) dex, (0.120.02) dex, while the quadratic fittingsattain residual averages of (14616) K, (0.250.02) dex, (0.120.02) dex, respectively. It is observed from both results that using higher order polynomials does notimprove the residual averages with respect to those obtained from linear fittings. The procedure performed in this work follows the Stock & Stock method (1999). 2004 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57140205 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Num.2 Vol.40
