A revision based on deep vlt echelle spectrophotometry Jorge García-Rojas César Esteban Antonio Peimbert Mónica Rodríguez Manuel Peimbert María Teresa Ruiz Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas M17 H II regions ism: abundances ism: individual: M8 line: identification We present new echelle spectrophotometry of the Galactic H II regions M8and M17. The data have been taken with the VLT UVES echelle spectrographin the 3100 to 10400 Ă range. We have measured the intensities of 375 and 260emission lines in M8 and M17 respectively, increasing significatively the number ofemission lines measured in previous spectrophotometric studies of these nebulae. Most of the detected lines are permitted lines. Electron temperatures and densitieshave been determined using diferent diagnostics. We have derived He+, C++, O+and O++ ionic abundances from pure recombination lines. We have also derivedabundances from collisionally excited lines for a large number of ions of dierentelements. Highly consistent estimations of t2 have been obtained by using diferentindependent indicators; the values are moderate and very similar to those obtainedin other Galactic H II regions. We report the detection of deuterium Balmer emis-sion lines, up to DÎ, in M8 and show that their intensities are consistent withcontinuum uorescence as their main excitation mechanism. 2007 artículo científico 0185-1101 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57143101 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=571 Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (México) Num.1 Vol.43
