contents Environmental Education and Science Education: Ideology, Hegemony, Traditional Knowledge, and Alignment Erminia Pedretti Educación theory and practice Environmental educatio science education tensions Environmental degradation and decreasing quality of life have galvanized ageneration and launched a resurgence of attention to environmental matters, raisingquestions about environmental education policies and practices, and theirrelationship to science and social responsibility. Accordingly, many programs, policies, and frameworks have emerged worldwide in an effort to understand, develop andimplement environmental education. However, amidst shared concern for theenvironment and the recognition of the central role of education in enhancinghuman-environment relationships, there exist widely differing discourses andpractices under the banner of environmental education (SAUVÉ, 2005). In this paper Iexamine environmental education in relation to: 1) the range of ideologicalorientations, 2) the hegemony of school-based disciplines, 3) traditional ecologicalknowledge and wisdom (TEKW), and 4) alignment with science education. This paperstems from my interest in understanding the location (both theoretically andpragmatically) of environmental education discourses in contemporary schooling. 2014 artículo científico 1806-5104 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=571666020003 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5716 Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências application/pdf Associação Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências (Brasil) Num.2 Vol.14
