contents A Theory of SocioEcological Characteristics for Food Mindfulness Michael P. Mueller Educación heuristic mindfulness organic farming Ecojustice theory socioecological character People do not have the food needed to meet their basic needs in many parts of theworld. That is, they may be forced to eat what they have access to or what thecircumstances provide for. Therefore, poverty and scarcity play a large role in thechoices that many people have to make on a daily basis around produce and maybean underlying cause for their decision to consume cheap, processed food. On thecontrary, there is a significant body of literature that describes the typical patternsof hyper-consumerism in the United States even though people do not know wheretheir food comes from. More specifically, they do not have a relationship withfarmers, they do not know the farmworkers, and they do not recognize the dangersassociated with fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. This, in turn, may lead theminto making poor nutritional choices regardless of their socioeconomic status. Thisscenario may also apply to people who chose to live a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. However, there is an emerging trend of local and organic farming and mindfulnessaround personal and shared dietary wellness. This trend renews the culturalmemories, intergenerational knowledge, traditions, cultural ceremonies andnarratives of people from around the world who contribute to living a moresustainable (and healthy) lifestyle in relation to food. I will argue for a socioecologicalmovement that serves to strengthen principles and characteristics for foodmindfulness and the implication of creating heuristics or experiential heuristics formindful eating. This theory is based on my work as an organic market farmer for twoyears. It mediates the hegemony of neoliberalism and hyper-consumerism andworks towards ecojustice and food activism in science education. 2014 artículo científico 1806-5104 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=571666020004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5716 Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências application/pdf Associação Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências (Brasil) Num.2 Vol.14
