Garibay Romero Jesús Alvarado Ortega Ciencias de la Tierra shark Mexico Vallecillo lower Turonian Late Cretaceous In this paper we report the oldest geologic world record of Ptychodus mortoni, from the VallecilloMember (Agua Nueva Formation), at Vallecillo, Nuevo León, northeastern Mexico. The presence of theammonite Watinoceras coloradoense, allows the placement of the sediments of the Vallecillo memberwithin the lower Turonian (Watinoceras coloradoense zone). With reference to this new data, the presenceof Ptychodus mortoni in the Vallecillo member extend the temporal distribution of this species into theearliest Turonian. Also, this study suggests that the utility of this shark species as biostratigraphic controlin late Cretaceous sediments should be revised in greater detail. 2007 artículo científico 1026-8774 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57224103 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=572 Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas (México) Num.1 Vol.24
