Miranda-Calderón Química Chitosan Vancomycin Microparticles Factorial design Chitosan microparticles were optimised by a factorial design of 23 experiments, where process conditions, such as mixing time, mixing temperature and mixing speed, were evaluated regarding particle size. The objective was to get a mean size of 10 μm to load vancomycin intended for future buccal applications. The significant factors of the process were time and temperature. The characterization of the microparticles optimized by electron microscopy shows the morphology while the X-ray diffraction confirms the encapsulation of vancomycin; however, since vancomycin is a hydrophilic drug, the percent of encapsulation was only 35 %. The drug release was best fitted with Higuchi square root model. Finally, this study demonstrated the design of a prolonged release delivery system of vancomycin from microparticles intended for the buccal cavity for the treatment of periodontal diseases. 2017 artículo científico 1870-0195 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=57956617005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=579 Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Farmacéuticas application/pdf Asociación Farmacéutica Mexicana, A.C.
