- Importancia de la sustracción de un factor de escala global de las potencias absolutas del electroencefalograma para la ubicación precisa de la actividad electroencefalográfica anormal Josefina Ricardo Aurelio Ballesteros Antonio Fernández Thalía Harmony Medicina Brain tumors power spectrum relative power Global Factor Scale psychiatric patients Frequency analysis of the electroencephalogram (EEG) hasproved to be a method of great importance for the evaluation ofpatients with brain lesions. Two different EEG recordings mayshow a similar appearance but they may differ greatly in overallamplitude, which is due to a difference in a multiplicative factorin the raw spectra (a Global Scale Factor: GSF). Its subtractiondecreases the non-physiological variability and contributes toimprove the diagnostical precision. Hence; knowing the diagnosticaccuracy of this procedure in well defined structural lesions, willallow us to better study the cerebral dysfunctions present in mentaldiseases. The objectives of this paper is to evaluate the degree ofcoincidence of the diagnostical precision in a group of patientswith brain tumors, by using the measures of the Absolute PowerSpectrum (AP) in the delta, theta and alpha bands, obtainedwith and without the subtraction of the GSF, as well as in theRelative Power (RP) in the same bands, using as the truthcriteria the lesion showed by the Magnetic Resonance (MR).Twenty patients (13 women and 7 men; mean age = 57 years)with supratentorial brain tumors were studied. In every case, the lesion was corroborated through simple and contrastedMR. APs were obtained with and without the subtraction ofthe GSF, as well as the RP, in the above mentioned bands. Ineach one of the patients it was determined which one of thederivations could be affected by the lesion, considering the sizeof the tumor... 2002 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58212505 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.1 Vol.25
