  • Confiabilidad entre observadores no experimentados de conductas de reposo-actividad de macacos cola de muñón (Macaca arctoides) en cautiverio exterior María José Adame Alejandro Cerda Paola Zubirán Francisco Páez Ana María Santillán Ricardo Mondragón Ceballos Jairo Muñoz Medicina rest Primates activity behavior confiability The behavioral sciences rely to a great extent in the sensoryperception of observers. Recently, the American Journal ofPrimatology devoted an entire issue to the state of art of researchon the activity-rest periods of non human primates, finding that the use of high-sensitive video recording equipmentsis a non obtrusive option to study behavior in sociallyestablished groups. In orden to perform quantitative studies itis necessary to assess the behaviors observed by differentobservers using reliability indexes. In the following paper fourresting behaviors related to sleep patterns in an group ofstumptail macaques housed outdoors were defined: 0 off (outsideof the camera focus); 1 resting with mioclonus; 2 restingwithout mioclonus; 3 transition; and 4 awake. Three naïveobserves from a nightly video recording of a single macaqueevaluated these behaviors. After a first trial the given definitionsof behaviors were discussed obtaining an operationaldefinition for each one. Afterwards, a 6-hours video recordingwas observed, and the interobservers reliability was assessedby means of Cohen’s Kappa. The following results were obtained:Kappa for behavior 0 was of 0.943; 0.785 for behavior1; 0.857 for behavior 2; 0.590 for behavior 3; and 0.859 forbehavior 4. These data provided a measure of the easiness inrecognizing and assessing each behavior. 2000 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58222303 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.2 Vol.23
