contents ¿El PANDAS es un subtipo de trastorno obsesivo compulsivo de los niños? Rosa Elena Ulloa Eduardo Arroyo Humberto Nicolini Medicina PANDAS obsessive autoimmune compulsive disorder streptococcal infection Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has a frequency of 0.2%-5%in clinical population of children and adolescents. Although it sharescharacteristics, such as severity and response rate to treatment, withthe adult disorder, the etiology and physiopathology of pediatricOCD has not been completely understood. The word PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) includesdisorders such as OCD and Tourette syndrome produced after anstreptococcal infection. The main characteristic of PANDAS is theabrupt onset or exacerbation of symptoms, and their remission afterthe infection is controlled. Comorbid symptoms (anxiety, hyperactivity and conduct disorders) are frequently observed and disappear with the OCD symptoms. The evaluation of these patients requires to determine if otherpsychiatric symptoms are present, as well as a complete physicalexamination. Antibodies (antistreptococcal and D8/17) are useful for the diagnosis. PANDAS patients show little response to thetraditional management of OCD; however, immunotherapies emergeas a good choice for treatment. 2001 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58222408 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.2 Vol.24
