Salín Pascual Medicina nicotine fluoxetine desimipramine Major depression It has been reported that there is a link between majordepression and nicotine dependence. Also, it has beenshown that acute administration from one to fourcontinuous days of transdermal nicotine improveddepression in non-smoking major depressed patients. The goals of this study were to observe the antidepressanteffect of transdermal nicotine in placebonon-responders non-smoking major depressed patients, after one week of daily nicotine administration, and tosee if the antidepressant response to nicotine couldpredict the clinical outcome after fluoxetine ordesimipramine administration.Forty-two non-smoking major depressed patients werestudied. After a complete explanation about theprotocol, signed consents were obtained from all thesubjects. Patients received placebo during two weeks.Placebo responders were removed from the study.Placebo non-responders patients received one-weektransdermal nicotine patches (17.5 mg/24 hr) andplacebo capsules for one week. Subsequently thepatients were randomly assigned to desimipramine (150mg/day) or fluoxetine (20 mg/day). Weekly visits wereevaluated using both clinical scales, during six followupvisits... 2002 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58222503 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.2 Vol.25
