Training consisted of an intensiveeight-week nurse training program which included readingmaterials, verbal instruction, modeling, role playing, and descriptive feedback (verbal and videotaped). Theprogram sought to establish specific nurse behaviorssuch as visual contact, greeting the patient, offeringhelp, physical proximity, praising, smiling, verbal requests, comforting touch, and avoiding criticizing, yelling/scolding and ignoring the patient. The effects of theprogram were measured in terms of patients’ perceivedwell-being, pain, level of satisfaction with nurse care, and length of stay in the hospital, as well as instructionfollowing, and approving or thanking nurse behavior.Behavioral recording involved videotaping nurse-patientinteraction through a video camera and recorder controlledby an automatic motion detection device whichcould get activated at any time within the correspondingarea. Medical recovery measures included the scalesof the Acute Physiology Age Chronic Health EvaluationII (APACHE-II) assessment system, the Glasgow ComaScale and caregiver estimates of apparent emotionalstate, independence from life-support equipment, reflexes, wound healing and general clinical stability... 2002 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58222504 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.2 Vol.25
