Isabel Peralta Ramírez Miguel Pérez García José Luis Callejas Rubio Medicina lupus Anxiety depression personality disorder Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a prototype of the autoimmunediseases, is a multi-systemic disease characterized by an alterationin the immunological response, where the production ofantibodies is directed against nuclear antigens, thus affecting manyorgans and systems. The course of this disease includes a widerange of clinical manifestations, different anatomo-pathologicalfindings, and a series of immunological abnormalities. It is characterizedby outbreaks and remissions. SLE can be manifested bygeneral malaise, fever, fatigue, weight loss, skin rashes or jointinflammation, anemia, inflammation of the lymphatic glands, loweringof the defenses against infection, and cardiac, kidney, pulmonaryand neurological alterations. In chronic dermatologicallupus, only the skin is affected; this condition can present rasherythemas, etc. The recent introduction of new immunologicaldiagnostic methods (antinuclear antibodies, anti-DNA antibodies, complementary fraction, etc.) has made it possible to recognizeless severe forms of the disease, as well as its outbreaks andtherapeutic guidelines.Different psychological variables have been associated with theexacerbation of the disease; one of the most notable is stress, andmany patients with lupus also suffer diverse psychiatric and personalitydisorders associated with the disease, with a prevalenceoscillating between 20% and 60%. Furthermore, these alterationshave been associated with a lower quality of life, poorer evolutionand psychiatric antecedents. In the specific case of personalityalterations, previous research has found the existence of a “triadof personality” characteristics in patients with lupus. Depression, hysteria and hypochondria are the factors making up this triad. However, it has not been shown whether these personality disordersare just another symptom of the disease or a consequence ofthe emotional disorders produced by it. 2007 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58230203 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.2 Vol.30
