contents Trastorno obsesivo compulsivo en niños y adolescentes: una actualización. Primera parte Luis Alberto Vargas Álvarez Lino Palacios Cruz Guillermo González Thompson Francisco de la Peña Olvera Medicina etiology Obsessive diagnoses compulsive disorder children and adolescents The obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is being reported now withincreased prevalence in pediatric population than in the past, associated with the development of more specific assessment methods. This evolution has opened the possibility to characterize OCDpresentation in children and adolescents. OCD in childhood is achronic and distressing disorder that can lead to severe impairmentsin social, academic and family functioning. Currently, pediatric OCDcriteria are the same than in adults. The presence of obsessive andcompulsive symptoms are needed to establish the diagnosis but, because of the lower levels of cognitive awareness in children, theyare less likely to consider their OCD symptoms as excessive orunreasonable. The DSM-IV does not require that symptoms berecognized as senseless or unrealistic for the diagnosis to be madein children. Overall, there are several clinical differences in theyounger age groups that make this disorder a diagnostic andtreatment challenge for clinicians 2008 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58231302 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.3 Vol.31
