Taboada Ares Medicina perinatal risk Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) refer to a group of severeneuropsychologic alterations. Symptoms affect three developmentcomponents: social-interaction skills, language and communicationskills and a set of behaviours and activities that become restrictedand stereotyped. PDDs include the following disorders: Autistic, Rett’s,Infantile Disintegrative, Asperger’s and Generalized Non-specificDevelopment Disorder.Regarding to its unknown causes, several explanations havebeen gathered as a challenging task. They highlight the idea ofgeneralised alterations in the Central Nervous System (CNS). However, the strongest thesis defines a multicausal etiology, with different factorsassociated to PDDs.Never the less, over the past few years, the review of problemsassociated with pregnancy and labour have been stressed. Thisperspective is complemented by other elements that point towardsgenetic alterations and CNS deficits as causes behind PDD. It has beensuggested that pregnancy, labour and even neonatal complicationscan act on different fronts: increasing the risk of autism or any otherPDD, or interacting along with genetic determinants to increase thepotential risk at a critical moment in the perinatal development process. The goal of this paper is to study the presence of perinatal riskin mothers of children with and without PDD... 2008 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58231504 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.5 Vol.31
