Objetive: to compare the Periodontal Treatments Needs of young adults smokers and non-smokers, would find a need minor treatment in non-smokers. Method: The students are subject to a medical and dental examination before to start classes. In the dental exam were selected young adults smokers and non-smokers. Periodontal examination was based on the Index of Periodontal Treatments Needs of Communities (CPITN). Results: One hundred thirty nine young adults were examined. Seventy young adults smokers and sixty –nine non- smokers. In the smokers group eighty- six per cent were classified as NT: 2, 9 % as NT: 3, 4% as NT: 1, 1% as NT: 0. In the non-smokers group eighty- six per cent were classified as NT: 2, 14% as NT: 1.The Periodontal Treatment Needs of young adults smokers, in 86% (NT: 2) are oral hygiene education and basic periodontal therapy (scaling and root planning, surface polishing).
