- Necesidades de tratamiento periodontal en una población de pacientes fumadores jóvenes Jenny Hortencia Fuentes Sánchez DIego Sabogal Rojas Medicina Smoking Gingivitis Young Adults Periodontitis Periodontal Disease The present descriptive study determined the Periodontal Treatment Needs (NT) of young adults smokers who were students from the University National University of Colombia. Objetive: to compare the Periodontal Treatments Needs of young adults smokers and non-smokers, would find a need minor treatment in non-smokers. Method: The students are subject to a medical and dental examination before to start classes. In the dental exam were selected young adults smokers and non-smokers. Periodontal examination was based on the Index of Periodontal Treatments Needs of Communities (CPITN). Results: One hundred thirty nine young adults were examined. Seventy young adults smokers and sixty –nine non- smokers. In the smokers group eighty- six per cent were classified as NT: 2, 9 % as NT: 3, 4% as NT: 1, 1% as NT: 0. In the non-smokers group eighty- six per cent were classified as NT: 2, 14% as NT: 1.The Periodontal Treatment Needs of young adults smokers, in 86% (NT: 2) are oral hygiene education and basic periodontal therapy (scaling and root planning, surface polishing).
