Cortés Norma de la Rosa Erika Robles Gabriela Galindo y Francisco de la Peña Judith Salvador Medicina WAIS Neuropsychology cognitive evaluation Attention deficit disorder According to the bibliography, little is known about theneuropsychological characteristics of patients with attention deficitdisorder (ADD), and the current tendency in investigation has beencentered in the study of the executive functioning, without takinginto consideration other cognitive aspects. This study evaluated morewidely the cognitive abilities of a group of 30 ADD adolescents (agemean = 17.1; SD = 2.1) with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(WAIS) and Rey’s Complex Figure. The different functions impliedin problem solution were analyzed for generating a plausible modelwhich could explain the interrelation of the cognitive characteristicsof the group. Patients obtained a total I.Q. average within the normalrange (mean = 102.3, SD = 7.5), without significative discrepanciesbetween the values of verbal I.Q. and execution. The factorial analysisof the 11 WAIS subscales generated four factors explaining 74.1% ofthe total variance, two of which significantly correlated with thetotal I.Q. value. A trajectory analysis was also made by means ofmultiple lineal regression for establishing the hypothetical model tobe confirmed, and an structural analisis with the AMOS program. The model obtained presented a good adjustment percentage withthe empiric data (78.9%; with a 0.067 error). The copy essay score inRey’s Complex Figure, as well as in the memory essay, was significantlybelow the established parameters for the mean of the population. Therefore, it is concluded that the WAIS I.Q. value does notdiscriminate the group of patients, but it discriminates theinterrelations between the different subscales. Significative disorderswere also found in graphic ability, which as in the disorders inexcecutive functioning could also be characteristic of this type ofpatients, thus supporting the hypothesis of an involvement of thefunctioning of the right cerebral hemisphere in DAA. 2001 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58242406 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.4 Vol.24 |
