These patterns hold that the present beauty standardstresses out outstandingly the convenience of slimness.Despite the importance of the cultural aspect in thedevelopment and maintenance of body image disruptions,empirical research is limited due to the lack of a tool designedto evaluate such influence.The Questionnaire of Sociocultural Influences on theAesthetic Body Shape Model (21) was designed in an attemptto measure the influence of the agents and situations thattransmit the actual aesthetic model. The validation was carriedout in 118 young Spanish women: 59 anorectics and 59 normal,matched by age and social class. The questionnaireshowed satisfactory internal consistency and appropriatesensitivity and specificity as a sound instrument for screeningdue to its relation whith nervous anorexia and socioculturalinfluences.This study evaluated the psychometric properties of theCIMEC scale in Mexican population.
