| contents | Validez y confiabilidad del MHI-5 para evaluar la depresión de mujeres en primer nivel de atención Ma. Asunción Lara Claudia Navarro Liliana Mondragón Norma Angélica Rubí Ma. del Carmen Lara Medicina MHI scale screening depression intervention Treatment of depression has changed due to the fact that certainpatients are seen outside mental health institutions, at the primaryhealth care level or at general hospitals and because the effectivenessof interventions for the treatment of depression at this level mustbe proved. This situation has led to the search and development ofinstruments for the detection of depression, that are brief, do notrequire the participation of a mental health specialist, not includephysical symptoms, and are sensitive to the effects of anintervention. The aim of this paper is to describe the results of theapplication of the MHI-5 in a study of depression in women thatseek treatment at the primary health care level. The article describesthe internal consistency and validity of the instrument: the criterionvalidity when compared with the diagnosis established by aconsultant, the concurrent validity in regard to other scales ofsymptoms and also data on its sensitivity for the measurement ofchanges resulting from an anti-depressive intervention (predictivevalidity). The study was carried out at three Mental Health CommunityCenters and a Health Center of the Secretary of Health. Thesample consisted of 254 women that requested treatment inresponse to an offer of a psycho-educational intervention fordepression. The women that sought help and met the criteria forinclusion were interviewed based on a questionnaire on sociodemographicvariables, life events and other relevant aspects tothe study, as well as on emotional symptoms. The latter wereevaluated by using the MHI-5, the Depression Scale of the Centerfor Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D; the Anxietyand Somatization Scales of the SCL-90 and Coopersmiths Self-Esteem Inventory. Current depressive episodes were evaluatedusing the SCID, which is based on the DSM-IIIR criteria. Thestudy compares a group intervention (IG) of six sessions and aminimal intervention (IIM) of one session, with pre-, post- andfollow-up evaluations. A sub-sample of 39 randomly selectedwomen was evaluated nearly two years after the intervention. Thisarticle only reports the data relevant to the afore mentionedobjectives... 2002 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58262502 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.6 Vol.25 |
