- Apego al tratamiento psicoterapéutico y resultados de una intervención breve en pacientes de consulta externa psiquiátrica María del Carmen Lara Muñoz Javier Torres Torija C. Medicina Brief psychotherapy treatment adherence outcome assessment This is a report of the results of an observational study of patientsin brief psychotherapy treatment, with the following aims: a) Tocompare the psychosocial characteristics of the patients whofinished treatment, with those that prematurely dropped-out, andb) To assess the outcome of this treatment in patients thatcompleted it. The sample contained 111 patients, 83 women (74%) and 28 men (28 %), who were referred by their psychiatrist tothe Psychotherapeutic Service of the National Institute ofPsychiatry Ramon de la Fuente. During the first eight weeks, thefollowing clinical and psychosocial scales were applied to patientsattending this Service for the first time: personality inventory, scale of psychiatric symptoms, social adjustment scale, scale of thepercibed social support, scale of ego strenght, and selfsteem scale. From the 111 patients who requested attention, 25 did not comefor the initial interview, and 4 were considered as not suitable, therefore the sample was reduced to 82 patients (64 women and18 men). The treatment consisted of 20 sessions of grouppsychotherapy or 16 sessions one every two weeks, of briefindividual psychotherapy. Fourty-two patients (51%) completedat least 16 treatment weeks, and 40 (49%) dropped-out at somestage of the process. At the end, those who completed theirtreatment were asked to answer once more the previously appliedscales. When comparing the initial scores of the patients whocompleted their treatment (n=42), whith those of the drop-outs(n=40) no significant differences were found, but when comparingthe final scores of the patients who completed the treatment, withtheir initial scores, significative differences were found in variousscales, specially in anxiety, depression, hostility and socialadjustment. Suitable research methods to assess the complexprocess implied in the psychotherapeutical treatment must befound. 2002 artículo científico 0185-3325 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=58262504 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=582 Salud Mental application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatría Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Salud Mental (México) Num.6 Vol.25
