contents Fatigue Crack Repair Profiles Based on Surface Defect Shapes José Efraín Rodríguez Sánchez Jaime Núñez Farfán Alejandro Rodríguez Castellanos Ingeniería crack repair fatigue A crack removal has the purpose to stop crack propagationand prevent future crack reinitiation, thus fatigue life of thecomponent is extended. A profile design for the removal offatigue cracks that grow under bending loading is presented. The design is based on the preferred shape development ofsurface defects under bending loading. Preferred shapedevelopment of surface defects was experimentally identifiedand validated with observations previously reported by otherauthors. The design of a crack removal profile consists on determininga notch geometry and its dimensions to cut out a crack. Thecrack removal profile presented here induces crack reinitiation,if it would occur, on the surface plate at the notch ends ratherthan in the bottom of the notch, so original plate thickness isreinstalled for propagation and inspection is easier. This repairprocedure is recommended for the removal of fatigue cracksin tubular joints of offshore jackets steel structures. 2006 artículo científico 1665-0654 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=61410102 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=614 Científica application/pdf Instituto Politécnico Nacional Científica (México) Num.1 Vol.10
