contents NAFTA and Beyond: Challenges in Free Trade Maritza Soto Administración y Contabilidad FTAA NAFTA Free Trade Globalization International Business The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) increasingly lookslike a “one shot” deal with little of the ongoing deepening of economicrelationship expected at the time of its negotiation and no provisions forongoing negotiations. As a result, alternative-trading arrangements mayprovide an opportunity to move the North American Trade agenda forward. The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) is one alternative, however,it is an extremely ambitious undertaking bringing together a large numberof very divergent economies in terms of size, stage of economic development, economic performance and economic philosophy. This increases thecomplexity of negotiations and the probability of failure. The paper outlinesthe major areas where negotiations are likely to be difficult and providessuggestions regarding what has been learned from the NAFTA experiencethat is relevant to the FTAA. 2004 artículo científico 1541-8561 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=63190204 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=631 Forum Empresarial application/pdf Universidad de Puerto Rico Forum Empresarial (Puerto Rico) Num.2 Vol.9
