Wheeler Biología Carex Uncinia taxonomy Section Pellucidae Robinson Crusoe Island Ten members of the tribe Cariceae (Cyperaceae) occur on the Juan Fernández Archipelago:four species of Carex and six of Uncinia. Eight of the ten species occur on AlejandroSelkirk Island (= Masafuera; 50 km2) while four are known from Robinson Crusoe Island(= Masatierra; 48 km2). Carex fernandezensis, C. stuessyi, Uncinia aspericaulis, and U.macloviformis are newly described from the archipelago and all are endemic to the islands.Only two species, Carex berteroniana and Uncinia douglasii, both endemics, are of frequentoccurrence and each occurs on both islands. Another endemic, Uncinia costata, is knownonly from the type locality on Alejandro Selkirk. The three remaining species, Unciniaphleoides, U. tenuis, and Carex phalaroides, the last here reported for the first time from thearchipelago, also occur on the South American mainland. Lectotypes are chosen for thenames Uncinia costata and U. tenuis f. firmula.
