Self reported practice wasassessed through interviews with pharmacy staffusing a questionnaire; actual practice was assessedwith the Simulated Client Method with 5 encountersin each pharmacy (a total of 295 encounters). Results: Sixty percent of the pharmacy staffinterviewed said that they would not dispensecorticosteroids without prescription and 60% couldmention some adverse effects. In practice all butone pharmacy dispensed corticosteroids withoutprescription in 76 % of all the encounters. Questionsand advice given to the clients were associated withsignificantly lower dispensing of corticosteroids. Conclusion: The low compliance with prescriptionregulations and the discrepancy between statedpractice and actual practice raises concerns. Thisstudy indicates that commercial pressures exceedthe deterrent effect of current drug regulations andtheir implementation and hence enforcement ofregulations needs to be improved. 2006 artículo científico 1885-642X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=69040202 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/690/69040202/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/690/69040202/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/690/69040202/69040202.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/690/69040202/movil en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=690 Pharmacy Practice application/pdf Centro de investigaciones y Publicaciones Farmacéuticas Pharmacy Practice (España) Num.2 Vol.4
