  • An Audit of Diabetes Dependent Quality of Life (ADDQoL) for Portugal: exploring validity and reliability Filipa Alves da Costa José Pedro Guerreiro Catherine Duggan Medicina Diabetes Portugal Questionnaires Quality of life Validation studies Objective: This paper describes the processesinvolved to ensure a diabetes-specific quality of lifequestionnaire [the “Audit of Diabetes DependentQuality of Life” (ADDQoL)] retained thepsychometric properties following cross-culturaladaptation from English to Portuguese. Methods: One hundred patients were recruitedthrough community pharmacies located in Lisbonthrough a cross-sectional study design. Patientswere asked to respond to the questionnaire on oneoccasion in time. Data were subjected to factoranalysis, and internal consistency anddiscriminatory power analyses were undertaken. Results: In the Portuguese sample, 17 items loadedinto one factor, with factor loadings above 0.43. Theitem “worries about the future” loaded weekly intothis factor but if removed its internal consistencyestimate increased very slightly (Cronbach´salpha=0.89 to 0.90). A greater negative impact ofdiabetes on 16 of the 18 quality of life domains wasdetected for insulin-treated patients, together with agreater negative impact on 14 of the 18 quality oflife domains for patients with diabetic complications. The domain “freedom to eat” revealed the greatestnegative impact in all patient subgroups, asdescribed in its original version, so the psychometricproperties were retained.Additionally, patients without diabetic complicationsreported a worse quality of life (greater negativeimpact) on the first overview item, present quality oflife (Z=-2.25; p=0.024); whilst patients on insulinreported a greater negative impact of diabetes ontheir quality of life (Z=-1.94; p=0.053).Conclusion: Generally, the Portuguese version forPortugal of the ADDQoL has shown to maintain itsoriginal psychometric properties, and could berecommended for use and further evaluation insubsequent studies. 2006 artículo científico 1885-642X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=69040304 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=690 Pharmacy Practice application/pdf Centro de investigaciones y Publicaciones Farmacéuticas Pharmacy Practice (España) Num.3 Vol.4
