- The importance of numerical symbols for the development of mathematical skills Daniel Ansari Medicina Child Learning Research Mathematics Human Development How do young children develop numerical and mathematical skills? In this paper, I review what we have learnt over the past few decades about the foundational skills that underpin children’s numerical and mathematical development. I discuss the importance of learning the meaning of numerical symbols and review studies that show that early number symbol knowledge predicts later math skills and that training numerical symbol knowledge can enhance children’s early math skills. I close by discussing future directions. 2024 artículo científico 0123-7047 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=71982434007 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/719/71982434007/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/719/71982434007/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/719/71982434007/71982434007.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/719/71982434007/movil 10.29375/01237047.5393 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=719 MedUNAB application/pdf Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga MedUNAB (Colombia) Num.3 Vol.27
