CONCEPTIONS OF DEATH AMONG TOBA (QOM) PEOPLE OFTHE ARGENTINEAN CHACO. This paper approaches the conceptionsof death and life after death among the Toba(Qom) people of the Argentinean Chaco. Specifically, itstudies the notion of person, which is implicit in the qomrepresentations of death and in the continuity of theexistence after death. The description of the funeralpractices leads to the analysis of the emotions impliedin them. First of all, this work presents the characteristicsof the social life of dead people and the role of the bodyin the existence of the person. The funeral practicesallow exploring the "predatory" attitude of the deceasedperson.
