  • Las ciudades y las identidades: patrimonios, memorias y narrativas sociales Carlos Fortuna Antropología This paper derives from the idea thattoday’s metropolis is an (hiper)space where social trajectories and signs of belongingness are continuously mixingtogether and redefining themselves. This fast transmutation of social identities —a process called “creativedestruction of identities”— is correlated and analyzed in the light of contemporary cultural changes. In a contextin which social identities seem to give way to temporary states of social identification, one can argue that even thehistorical and cultural heritage of the cities, mainly their ruins, monuments and museums, submitted to the rulesof aestheticization and commodification, are now facing the question of their own identity. As a matter of fact, thepast itself has become a commodity and therefore the historical and cultural praise of the city can hardly distinguishit from the fair. 1998 artículo científico 0188-7017 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=74781605 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=747 Alteridades application/pdf Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Alteridades (México) Num.16 Vol.8
