| contents | Process of Institutionalisation and democratisation in Asean: Features, challenges and prospects of regionalism in southeast Asia Jewellord T. Nem Singh Relaciones Internacionales ASEAN norms building institution democratisation The challenge to the relevance of ASEAN lies on its incapacity to reform its institutional structure torespond to various crises especially to issues that have regional implications. The paper argues thatregionalisation will be realised only through bolder attempts to institutionalise democratic norms aswell as enhanced mechanisms pooling sovereignty. The delicate balance between respecting nationalsovereignty and empowering regional autonomy needs to be considered in implementing thesereforms. Although the political and economic reforms are intertwined, they are two separate efforts tobe done by the ASEAN community. 2008 artículo científico 2386-9453 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=76701609 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=767 Revista UNISCI application/pdf Universidad Complutense de Madrid Revista UNISCI (España) Num.16 |
