This paper analyzes style and interactive fluencyin the body movements that generate sound and music, following the meanings attributed toeach drum by noted expert drum musicians. It is argued how African cultural principles organizethe musical performance suggesting that these music and dance practices may be fruitfullyapproached from an Afrocentered hermeneutical perspective.
