  • Control perception and coping behavior in abstinencein alcoholics Ioseba Iraurgi Isabel Vielva Salud Self Absti nence Coping efficacy The aim of the study is to determine which factors are associated withabstinence in alcoholics. Observational and cross-sectional studies werecarried out to study the relationships between causal attributions, self-efficacy and locus of control expectancies, and coping behavior in theproblem of alcohol abuse, on the one hand, and abstinence, on the other.Chronicity and background variables are also analyzed. Participantsw e re 201 alcoholics in outpatient treatment. Correlation analysisrevealed close relationship among the psychological variables, as well asbetween these variables and abstinence: longer periods of abstinencewere associated with more positive causal attributions, higher self-effica-cy, internal locus of control, and more active coping behavior.Ahierar-chical regression analysis was also performed, showing that certain attri-butions, self-efficacy, and locus of control accounted for abstinence, butcoping did not. Background did not reveal any association, but attendingtreatment and self-help groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, did.Because of their relationship, it is suggested that cognitive variablesshould be enhanced in treatment 2002 artículo científico 1578-5319 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=83920104 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=839 Salud y drogas application/pdf Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche Salud y drogas (España) Num.1 Vol.2
