To determine the relationship between expectations for alcohol consumption and consumption behavior among middle-level adolescents. Methods. A cross-sectional, correlational descriptive study of 604 adolescents from 12 public middle-level schools in a municipality of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, data were collected through 2 self-administered questionnaires The Alcohol Expectations Questionnaire (AEQ), designed by Brown et al., 1980 and the Alcohol Dependence Identification Test (AUDIT), developed by WHO and adapted in Mexico by De la Fuente and Kershenobich (1992). Results. They show that 83.3% of the adolescents had their first experimental contact of alcohol between the 10 and 15 years, in the same way in the variables of study it was found that the scales of sociability and relaxation are the ones that were most related to alcohol consumption in adolescents. Conclusion.
