Leocata Nieto Química phosphate sphingolipids sphingosine 1 ceramide: sphingosine Sphingolipid metabolites play critical functions in the regulation of a number of processesincluding cancer. Whereas ceramide and sphingosine mediate and trigger apoptosis or cellgrowth arrest, sphingosine 1- phosphate promotes proliferation and cell survival. The delicateequilibrium between the intracellular levels of each of these sphingolipids is controlled by theproducing enzymes. Sphingosine 1-kinase is a crucial regulator of this balance because itproduces the prosurvival sphingosine 1-phosphate, and reduces the content of proapoptoticsphingolipids. The gene was found to be of oncogenic nature, its mRNA is over-expressed inmany tumors and the enzyme activity is decreased during anticancer treatments. Strategies tokill tumor cells by increasing their ceramide content while blocking sphingosine 1-phosphategeneration should have a favorable therapeutic index 2007 artículo científico 1666-7948 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=86360305 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=863 Química Viva application/pdf Universidad de Buenos Aires Química Viva (Argentina) Num.3 Vol.6 |
