Piñeiro Chávez Veterinaria trophocyst phototropic Pilobalaceae sporangiosphores Utharomyces epallocaulus On the basis of a study of coprophilous fungi from Zulia state,Venezuela, a Pilobolaceae (Mucorales) Zygomycota with simplesporangiosphores positively phototropic, arising from terminalor intercalary, subglobose, to ovoid trophocysts formedwithin the agar, at first erect, later decumbent, was isolatedfrom rat and mouse dung. The sporangia is initially globoseand white, and at maturity it is somewhat subglobose andblack, echinulate. The subsporangial stalk has little or no pigmentationat this stage. At maturity, the wall of the subsporangialstalk is thickened and pigmented, dark brown near thesporangium but becoming paler toward the vesicle. The sporangiosporesare globose to subglobose and ornamental.
